How to Select Your Tiles

How to select your tiles

Tile cutting

Tile Sizes
Wall tiles are currently available in a wide range of sizes from 100 x 100 mm to 330 x 445 mm. There are also old imperial measurements such as 4 ½ inch squares, which, when you convert to the metric, create some unusual sizes. In choosing, is very important to select the correct size tile for your room as it can save you much cutting and waste. Based on your room size, your shop-at-home representative can offer you numerous tile options.

Preparation of the Installation Area
I can guarantee that if the flatness of the wall surface is not corrected before tiling, small glossy glazed tiles will highlight the lack of uniformity in the surface, which will look terrible. Be sure to put in the hard work from the outset and prepare the surface for the tiling as much as possible.

Cutting Ceramic Tile
It is unlikely that you will instal ceramic tiles without having to make cuts. It is inevitable. Most people get a little nervous at the thought of doing this, but there is an easy way to resolve this issue. Before you instal the tile, be sure you have either the equipment or an alternative site to where you can have the cuts made. The best piece of equipment to cut tile is a wet saw, which may be rented from the local tool rental company. The next thing with installation is to leave all of the cuts for the end of the application, but, make sure there is no adhesive on the area where the tile has to be cut and fitted.

Cutting Holes in Ceramic Tile
Often when tiling around the plumbing under the sink, or in a shower area, it is necessary to make a hole in the tile to accommodate the pipe. This may sound complicated but don’t worry about it. Many hardware stores sell a hole cutting device that can be added to a drill or screwdriver that will make the process quite easy.

Grouting Spaces
Always remember to factor in the grouting spaces, and the asthetic appearance of the size of the grout space in relation to the size of the tile. Before committing to a specific size grout space, look at other tile jobs, even, at our neighbors or in your local stores or malls to help you settle on the size you are most comfortable with.

Decorative tiles
There are plenty of charming ranges to choose from, including highly decorative and patterned tiles, made of glass, natural stone, metals, resins and a combination of materials and sizes. Install decorative tiles as accents or borders can really add the “wow factor” to a room and improve the appearance and the function of the theme you choose.

Buying tile online
Because of the internet, we now have access to other sources of tile that wasn’t available 20 years ago. But, buying on line can be tricky, especially when it comes to the actual color, finish, rating, size and thickness of the tiles. It is always a good idea to request samples of the tile you like before committing to buy large quantities. The purpose for the samples is so that you can check the quality, color and size of the tiles, and to make sure that you are able to cut and shape them easily.

Installing Accessories
Bath and shower accessories are features that can be inserted into the tile to add function and accents to your chosen decor. Inserts can be toilet paper holders, soap dishes and towel bars etc, However, some of these accessory installations can really be complicated but disasters can be avoided. It is therefore recommend that, before you install them, do a “dry run” by actually putting things together on a flat surface before adhering them to the walls. Cut and fit each piece together, first, prior to final applicaion.

Mosaic Tiles
These highly decorative pieces are made of a ceramic, natural stone, metal, or glass fragments in sizes of typically from 10 to 25 mm. Normally attached to either a paper, mesh, plastic or nylon buy sheets, mosaic tiles make great borders, back splashes and decorative elements for the kitchen or bathroom. Determine and understand where to start and finish your mosaic installation is an important factor in your room design. This applies if you install mosaics to an entire wall or a small area like a backsplash.
Prior to completing your order with Brehzil Tile always double check your measurements of the depth, height and width of each area you are planning on covering with Mosaics or field tile and then multiply by a 10% waste factor
